SASTRA (Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy) Deemed to be University, located in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, was established in 1984 as Shanmugha Engineering College. It achieved a monumental milestone by becoming the first institution in Tamil Nadu to be granted 'Deemed University' status by the UGC in 2001.
